The Liouesso hydropower project was a key project in the development of the Shanga province in the northern part of the country decided by the presidency. It aims at providing sustainable and stable energy supply to the Ouesso disctrict by damming the Liouesso river. The project will be connected to the national grid. Currently it is operated as an isolated plant.

The project includes:

  • A 40m high CFRD Dam,
  • a power plant with three Francis turbines for a total 19MW capacity,
  • a two bay gated spillway
