The Challenge

The SF2 project involves the construction of new temporary storage facilities for spent nuclear fuel at the Doel and Tihange sites. These facilities are essential to enable the decommissioning of the nuclear power plants following their final shutdown. The environmental and regulatory compliance according to the localisation region is a key element in the preparation of this project

The Solution

Tractebel coordinated the identification, management, and tracking of all relevant environmental and regulatory requirements.
The team provided consultancy during feasibility and design phases, prepared planning permit applications including impact assessments, and ensured integration of permit conditions into technical specifications. Regular design reviews and close collaboration with architects and technical teams ensured compliance and consistency throughout the process.
• Environmental consultancy in feasibility and design phases of the project.
• Preparation of the planning permit application with impact assessment for the preparatory works and for the main project.
• Coordination and monitoring of the development of plans by the technical office and the architect for the permit application.
• Integration of the conditions of the permit granted in the technical specifications of the specifications.

The Impact

Tractebel’s involvement ensures that both projects meet all environmental and regulatory requirements from the feasibility phase through to permitting and execution. This contributes to smoother project progression, reduced legal risks, and enhanced environmental accountability. Their work supports regulatory approval.
