Springfield is a fully planned city, with ambition to grow from current 40,000 residents to 150,000 in the next 20 years. Engie has engaged in a unique 50-year alliance with the city developer to support the ambition of making Springfield a zero net energy city by 2038. Link to Springfield web page.
The 360 City Scan provided a holistic analysis of the city sustainability, giving insights on multiple city performance perspectives. It highlighted city strengths and values that need to be protected and also identified perspectives that have to be further developed, giving basis to streamline investment effort.

‘The Journey' project established development roadmap that would bring Springfield to the exemplary level of Better City, with special focus on locally produced green energy, including hydrogen. It addresses technology and innovation challenges in integrated way, optimizing performance perspectives of energy, mobility, urban space, buildings. Development goals are well defined and accompanied by list of actions & investments. Three scenarios are considered: Busines as Usual (for comparison), Zero Net Electricity and Zero Net Carbon. ‘Integration’ is a key success factor in defining the investment priorities and a way for cost optimization. Predefined urban framework for one of the precincts is proposed as a showcase of the roadmap application.
