Today, four billion people live in cities and urban regions, a number that is expected to increase by 50% to six billion by 2050. Responsible management and further (re)development of urban areas has become one of the most pressing and complex challenges of the 21st century. If well managed, cities offer the most relevant opportunities for economic development coupled with sustainable housing, (public) transport, green and water infrastructures, as well as enhanced access to facilities including fundamental services such as energy, health care and education, for large and growing populations. Providing all this for a densely settled urban population is typically more economically and environmentally efficient than providing similar level of services to more widely dispersed rural or even suburban populations.

Tractebel provides solutions to capture the opportunities while tackling the challenges.

Ensuring long-term sustainability for our working, living and natural environments: a widely shared and increasingly non-negotiable ambition. Still, its application to each project requires concretization and embedding in practice. In addition, different actors and stakeholders will more often than not entertain different interpretations and goals regarding the environment. As a consequence, not only communication but above all, real-world, concrete collaboration towards achieving environmental goals remains challenging.

Tractebel translates theoretical sustainability concepts into tangible project-specific approaches and tools. Addressing the needs of architects, engineers, planners, policymakers, developers, financiers and other (industrial) stakeholders. For us, (environmental) sustainability means reaching well-balanced and well-supported decisions, after considering societal needs and expectations along with legal and regulatory requirements, evaluating resource depletion and other negative effects, assessing opportunities and costs, and promoting innovation and long-term value creation for all stakeholders. We are committed to People, Planet and Prosperity.

Prosperity and urbanisation place increasingly challenging demands on transport and mobility: people and goods need to move faster and in a cleaner and safer way. This requires intelligent and reliable transport systems and infrastructure, of increased effectiveness and efficiency, while reducing (negative) environmental, spatial and societal impacts. Complex transport needs must be optimally addressed with the most relevant concrete solutions, in their dynamic context as cities and regions of the future.

Tractebel provides consulting, engineering and design services for all transport modes: road, rail, water, air. Whether your needs are related to the infrastructure or to the flows, we can make it work for you.

Tractebel favours an integrated, multidisciplinary and energy-efficient approach throughout the complete lifecycle of a building or industrial site. In close collaboration with our customers, we develop buildings that are conceived to satisfy current and future needs. As an engineering company we are specialised in structural engineering and special technics (MEP), as well as HVAC, plumbing and electricity. Being at the forefront of the implementation of Building Information Modelling (BIM), we closely interact with our clients, architects, construction firms and other engineering companies.

Building and energy efficiency are main drivers for our projects. Tractebel has developed competencies in the domains of energy efficiency (audits, master planning, certifications) and building efficiency (safety and security, acoustics and vibrations, fire safety). Moreover, in order to further expand its competences, Tractebel acquired in 2016 a majority stake in RED, an award-winning consultancy specialising in the design of innovative and low energy MEP services for data centres and commercial and hospitality buildings. Headquartered in London and with international hubs in Dubai and Singapore, RED also benefits from its Global Design Centre located in Manila. Find out more about RED on www.red-eng.com
