The Challenge

CI-Energies needed to secure and optimize electricity production from four hydropower assets in Ivory Coast while addressing growing climate risks. The challenge was to assess flood safety and river flow variability under future climate scenarios, ensuring reliable energy generation and infrastructure resilience.

The Solution

Tractebel conducted a detailed climate change vulnerability study, including statistical downscaling of climate projections, hydrological analysis, and reservoir system modeling. We performed climate stress tests and produced key indicators linked to flood safety and energy production, enabling informed decision-making for asset operation and adaptation planning.

The Impact

The study provided CI-Energies with actionable insights to strengthen hydropower resilience against extreme events and long-term climate variability. By integrating climate projections into operational strategies, the project supports sustainable energy generation, reduces risk of outages, and enhances the reliability of Ivory Coast’s power supply.
