Tractebel’s climate targets approved by Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), reinforcing our climate ambitions

Tractebel is proud to announce that our near-term climate targets have been officially approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This recognition confirms our alignment with the 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement, reinforcing our purpose of engineering a carbon-neutral future.

What is  the Science Based Targets initiative?

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a global organization that helps companies set greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets that are in line with climate science and the goals of the Paris Agreement. In simple terms, it ensures that businesses commit to cutting emissions in a way that supports limiting global warming to well below 2°C—and ideally 1.5°C.

What does this mean for Tractebel?

Our SBTi-approved targets reflect a strong commitment to reducing GHG emissions across our operations and value chain:

• Scope 1 & 2 emissions
  We commit to reduce absolute GHG emissions by 42% by 2030, based on a 2024 baseline. This will be achieved through fleet electrification and sustainable energy use in our offices.
• Scope 3 emissions
  We aim to cut emissions by 25% by 2030 from activities such as fuel and energy-related operations, business travel (aligned with our new geographical footprint), upstream leased assets, and investments.
• Supplier engagement
  By 2029, our target is that over 50% of our suppliers’ emissions will be covered by science-based targets, focusing on purchased goods, services, and capital goods. This approach encourages our partners to join us on the decarbonization journey.
