The parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding to accelerate the development of the nuclear sector in the UAE through academic cooperation and the sharing of scientific expertise.

Tractebel signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on November 3, 2021 with Abu Dhabi University (ADU), one of the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) leading multi-campus private universities and home to the largest engineering college in the country. The partnership aims to strengthen academic cooperation between both entities, in addition to leveraging scientific expertise in cross fields. The MoU will contribute to nuclear power development in the UAE, part of its Net Zero by 2050 strategy.

Memorandum of Understanding cements new partnership

The MoU signing was held at ADU's Abu Dhabi campus in the presence of Professor Waqar Ahmad, Chancellor of ADU, Mostafa El Safty, Head of BD Nuclear in the Middle East, Thomas Palix, Regional Manager of Tractebel Middle East, and Dr. Nisreen Alwan, Acting Dean of the College of Health Sciences, as well as faculty from the college.

Developing the nuclear sector in the UAE

In line with the UAE’s Peaceful Nuclear Energy Program, ADU and Tractebel join efforts to accelerate the development of the nuclear sector in the UAE through collaborative research and development. In the long run, both parties will lay the groundwork and structure practical innovations and solutions to shape future research methodology. Tractebel will collaborate with the university to conduct a series of seminars and events under ADU’s engineering program, with a focus on topics that will help strengthen existing educational courses such as nuclear waste processing plants.

Creating opportunities through academic programs

The MoU highlights opportunities for both parties in training workshops and academic programs that will enable the development of joint facilities while simultaneously broadening the horizons and skills needed to tackle nuclear energy matters in the UAE. ADU and Tractebel aim to utilize research findings for the enhancement of the nuclear energy sector in the country.
