Mexico goes for solar robot power

10 Jun 2019

Our experts are proudly working on an innovative renewable project where robots help to cut greenhouse gas emissions by cleaning photovoltaic solar panels while the sun sleeps.

Our experts in Mexico are providing design review, owner’s engineering services and HSE (Health, Safety and Environment) services for a planned solar project bigger than 400 football fields. The project is in the Sonora region near Puerto Libertad.

One of the innovative aspects of this project is the use of robots  to clean photovoltaic solar panels without water. The automated robotic units can clean by night using microfiber and controlled air flow to remove dust particles from the panels. This is the first use of such technology in Mexico.

At COP-21, Mexico made a commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 22% by 2030, which goes hand in hand with creating a new energy matrix, where renewables play a greater role.

“This project developed by Tractebel, besides increasing the company's presence in the country, contributes to the economic development of a state with great potential for generation of this type of energy, as well as attracting other similar projects and increase training of specialised professionals with experience in projects of the latest technology like this one”, said François-Xavier Van Innis, regional manager at Tractebel Mexico.

Work started at the end of 2018 and the power plant is set to commence operations by the end of 2019.
