The International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD) was founded in 1928. Its objectives include the optimization of dam construction in all its aspects and in all its phases: Planning, design, construction, and operation of dams and related structures. ICOLD is also committed to ensuring that dams are built and operated safely, efficiently, and economically with as little environmental impact as possible.
For 40 years, ICOLD has made a special effort to raise the profession's awareness of the social and environmental aspects of dams and and reservoirs. The theme of this year's fair is: Sharing water - multi-purpose of reservoirs and innovations.
