Tractebel and IM3 join forces to support Power Systems and Interconnectors projects in Europe and beyond
Tractebel has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with im3 ingenieros, a Spanish engineering company specialised in power lines, to establish a strategic collaboration in the field of power systems and electricity interconnectors in Spain and other international markets.
A strategic framework for joint development
This MoU provides a framework for early-stage collaboration on projects, allowing both companies to combine their complementary expertise in power transmission, high-voltage direct current (HVDC) interconnectors and complex energy infrastructures. The agreement aims to strengthen their joint positioning towards project developers, transmission system operators and institutional stakeholders.
The MoU is designed to support cooperation on additional power system and interconnection projects across multiple regions, notably in Spain, Ireland, the UK and Latin America. The collaboration will focus on opportunities that contribute to strengthening grid resilience, enhancing security of supply, and supporting the integration of renewable energy sources.

Complementary expertise with an international outlook
Within potential joint projects, Tractebel is expected to act as consortium leader, drawing on its extensive experience in international power systems, HVDC technologies and offshore infrastructure. Tractebel’s scope is foreseen to cover offshore assets as well as onshore systems, depending on project configurations and geographies.
im3 ingenieros will contribute its recognised know-how in power line and transmission engineering, particularly for onshore networks, as well as its strong technical and regulatory understanding of the Spanish market. This expertise is also highly relevant for projects in the UK and Latin America, where grid expansion and reinforcement are accelerating in response to growing electrification and renewable energy deployment.
Stronger power transmission interconnection cross-border lines are essential to lowering European power prices and building a true energy union. Tractebel brings its expertise in complex offshore and onshore infrastructures to deliver a robust and reliable solution, while working alongside with IM3 Grupo, the top Spanish engineering firm within the engineering space for electrical installations.
