The Challenge
The new RTBF headquarters had to accommodate both office spaces and state-of-the-art TV and radio studios, all within a passive building envelope. The architectural vision called for a largely glazed structure that remained open and inviting, while also meeting exceptionally strict acoustic standards—posing a unique challenge in balancing transparency, energy efficiency, and sound insulation.
The Solution
Tractebel addressed this complex challenge by proposing an innovative design inspired by hospital typology—an organic, modular structure that is both expandable and adaptable. This approach allows for a flexible layout using standardized modules that can be configured to suit the specific context of each site. The result is a building that not only meets technical and functional requirements but also conveys a strong, unified identity aligned with the HELORA project. Tractebel is also overseeing the execution phase to ensure the design vision is fully realized.
The Impact
The project will deliver modern, community-oriented facilities that are human in scale and seamlessly integrated into their surroundings. Thanks to Tractebel’s holistic and forward-thinking approach, the new RTBF headquarters will stand as a benchmark for sustainable, functional, and identity-driven public infrastructure.
With the construction of this new Mediasquare building, RTBF will have a new high-performance work tool in terms of durability and modularity. The building's architecture features a lot of glass, demonstrating our commitment to openness. The ergonomic, user-friendly, bright environment encourages exchanges, collaborative working and creativity within the organisation. The extensive technological equipment and the implementation of a new IT infrastructure will give us 100% digital production capacity
