The Koudiat Acerdoune dam has been constructed on the Isser Wadi in the Bouira Wilaya in Algeria. The reservoir with a storage capacity of 640hm3 aims primarily at supplying water to 34 villages with a cumulative population of 800 000 inhabitants. It is also used for irrigating 19 000 hectares of agricultural land.

The construction of the 121m high RCC dam presented a number of construction challenges; indeed geological investigations and concerns about the seismicity of the area led to a redesign of the project. The solution promoted by Tractebel involved an innovative configuration, appropriate for complex foundation conditions.
