Find out moreTractebel experts has been chosen for a major redevelopment of the iconic New Delhi Railway Station, the nation’s second busiest serving 425,000 passengers a day.
Our experts from India will be extensively involved in the major redevelopment of one of the country’s most iconic landmarks, New Delhi Railway Station. As the second busiest in India, after Howrah railway station in Kolkata, it has 16 platforms and handles over 400 trains and 425,000 passengers daily. However, in spite of several interventions, the station lacks modern passenger amenities and has a large parcel of land without proper development plan.
The contract awarded to Tractebel covers carrying out the Feasibility Study, Detailed Master Planning, Urban Designing, and Engineering & Preparation of the Detailed Project Report for the station’s Re-development as a multi-modal hub with state-of-the-art amenities. The total area for development is 120 Ha, including the 25 Ha of main railway station. The project is to be developed on the model of Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Transfer (DBFOT) for a concession period of 60 years.
An extensive traffic plan is to be carried out for decongesting the entire Station area, including the historical Connaught Place adjacent to it. The key elements of the redevelopment plan aim to make it a modern railway station for passengers, but also to include development for commercial, residential, public-semi-public, and recreational use. Passenger facilities will include features such as lounges, food courts and restrooms. Designs will also encompass district cooling and heating, and at least 25% of the energy required will come from renewable sources. Green Building provisions will optimise natural ventilation and lighting.
“Tractebel takes great pride in being associated with the modernisation of the New Delhi Railway Station and contributing towards its development into an iconic landmark representative of the capital city of India.” Said by Vivek Sehgal
