The Challenge

The construction of a new dam for the Inn Joint Power Plant on the Swiss-Austrian border faced significant spatial and geological challenges due to its location in the narrow, deeply incised Inn valley.

The Solution

The project included a weir, headrace intake, fish ladder, and a doping power plant. The doping plant ensures a regulated minimum water discharge into the Inn, addressing the high surge loads caused by upstream hydropower operations.

The Impact

By buffering hydropeaking and enabling seasonally adjusted residual water releases, the project enhances ecological conditions in the Inn River while supporting the performance of downstream hydropower plants.
