- Period
- 2015-ongoing
The Challenge
Tractebel supports PALLAS in designing and building a nuclear multi-purpose research reactor to produce medical radioisotopes and supply a wide range of irradiation services. PALLAS is set to replace the old High Flux Reactor (HFR) in Petten, ensuring the Netherlands continues to help millions of people and save lives for the next 50 years.
The Solution
Tractebel acts as the Owner’s Engineer, providing comprehensive support throughout the project:
- Organization of the tendering process for Nuclear Island Designer
- Development of safety approach
- Development of functional and safety breakdown structure
- Review of site characterization study
- Organization of vendor’s conference
- Completion of Bid Invitation Specification (BIS)
- Bids assessment
- Contract negotiation
- Preparation of design
- Licensing
- Construction management
- Commissioning management
The Impact
The PALLAS reactor will start producing medical isotopes for diagnosis, therapy, and (medical) nuclear research, ensuring a continuous supply of these critical materials. This project will enable the Netherlands to maintain its leadership in medical isotope production and support innovative cancer treatments and other medical applications for the next 50 years.
