The Challenge

The project posed a unique challenge in designing a high-end tourist complex that seamlessly blends luxury, nature, and sustainability. Located right next to the Hoge Kempen National Park, this ambitious initiative by the LRM group aimed to offer an immersive experience through 250 elegant waterfront cottages. Tractebel was entrusted with developing a comprehensive multidisciplinary design, integrating innovative sustainable solutions while maintaining architectural and environmental harmony. The core difficulty lay in meeting the high standards of comfort and aesthetics expected from a luxury resort, all while respecting the ecological sensitivities of the surrounding natural landscape.

The Solution

Tractebel successfully delivered all required studies and, thanks to its multidisciplinary approach, was able to meet every challenge of the Terhills Resort project. Throughout the development, urban planning, landscaping, technical systems, architectural design, and interior engineering were all seamlessly integrated into a sustainable framework. The holiday homes were designed with timber-frame construction, are fully electric, and reflect a strong commitment to environmental responsibility. This holistic and forward-thinking approach ensured that the resort not only met high standards of comfort and aesthetics but also aligned with long-term sustainability goals.

The Impact

Tractebel’s impact on the Terhills Resort project is reflected in the meticulous attention to detail and the pursuit of unique, experience-enhancing features. A striking example is the integration of a floating bridge that connects the resort to the regional cycling network, seamlessly blending functionality with visual appeal. Additionally, the adjacent floating solar panels not only contribute to the site’s sustainability but also serve as eye-catching elements that elevate the overall aesthetic and innovation of the project. These thoughtful design choices underscore Tractebel’s commitment to creating a resort that is both environmentally responsible and architecturally distinctive.

As an investor, LRM has a clear mission: a Limburg-based project of this scale must stand out through its quality and serve as a catalyst for the entire region. Integration and complementarity with surrounding activities are essential. Its location alongside the national park is a major asset, which is why the emphasis on green development—both in terms of technical infrastructure and construction—creates a truly unique setting.
