The Challenge

The construction of a new dam for the ”Gemeinschaftskraftwerk Inn” on the Swiss-Austrian border faced significant spatial and geological challenges due to its location in the narrow, deeply incised Inn valley.

The Solution

The weir project included a weir, a headrace intake, a fish ladder, and a power plant, which utilizes the ecological flow. The eco power plant ensures a seasonally regulated minimum water discharge into the Inn, addressing the high surge loads caused by upstream hydropower operations.

The Impact

By buffering hydropeaking and enabling seasonally adjusted residual water releases, the project enhances ecological conditions in the Inn River while providing water for the downstream hydropower plant.
