The Challenge

The objective of this hospital development project presents a significant challenge: constructing a cutting-edge medical facility—including 22 operating theatres, advanced technical suites, and accommodations for 576 patients—while keeping the existing hospital fully operational. The Solution

To address the complex demands of the hospital development, Tractebel provided comprehensive project management services, focusing on geotechnical and structural design as well as vertical transportation systems across all areas of the facility. The project was particularly challenging due to tight site constraints, varied topography, and local seismic activity. Tractebel’s multidisciplinary expertise ensured that these factors were carefully integrated into the design and execution phases, enabling the construction of a state-of-the-art medical facility while maintaining the functionality of the existing hospital. The Impact

Tractebel’s contribution has had a significant impact on the successful progression of this hospital project, which is being executed in three distinct phases. The development includes the construction of two new buildings and an underground parking facility, covering a total land area of 12,750 m². A key structural innovation is the use of a horizontal seismic joint that separates the superstructure—comprising the two main hospital buildings—from the below-ground infrastructure. This design not only enhances the facility’s resilience to seismic activity but also ensures long-term structural integrity.
