The Challenge

One of the main challenges of the new waste treatment center in the Principality of Monaco is its unique architectural and technical complexity. Designed to replace the aging incineration plant, the facility is not only a critical piece of infrastructure but also an industrial structure housed within a vertical tower approximately 90 meters high—an uncommon approach for such facilities. This vertical design introduces significant engineering and logistical challenges, particularly in integrating advanced smoke discharge systems and ensuring full compliance with the highest environmental standards. The project demands the seamless incorporation of cutting-edge technologies within a constrained urban footprint, all while maintaining operational efficiency and minimizing environmental impact in a densely populated and environmentally sensitive area.

The Solution

To address the complex demands of the new waste treatment center in Monaco, Tractebel, in partnership with INGEROP, is delivering a comprehensive suite of engineering services. Together, they are responsible for the full design of the facility, covering key disciplines such as structural engineering, HVAC, electricity, fire protection, instrumentation and control (I&C), and mechanical systems. Their involvement extends beyond design, as they also support the client, Symbiose, throughout the construction phase. Leveraging their extensive experience in executing highly complex industrial buildings, Tractebel and INGEROP ensure that the facility integrates the latest environmental technologies and operates efficiently within the constraints of its vertical, urban setting. Their expertise is instrumental in transforming this ambitious architectural concept into a functional, sustainable reality.

The Impact

Tractebel’s involvement in the Monaco waste treatment center project has a profound and lasting impact, ensuring the Principality’s autonomy in waste treatment for the next 50 years. By co-designing the facility with INGEROP and integrating state-of-the-art, eco-friendly technologies, Tractebel is helping to secure a sustainable and self-reliant waste management solution. Their expertise guarantees that the facility not only meets the highest environmental standards but also operates efficiently within Monaco’s unique urban and spatial constraints. This long-term vision supports Monaco’s environmental commitments and reinforces its resilience in managing waste independently and responsibly for decades to come.

Our collaboration with INGEROP brings unmatched expertise as we can provide a unique multi-disciplinary team. Client has now secured partnerships with leading engineering companies to support all the industrial process and infrastructure development. As a result, we are able to ensure the new solution of waste management treatement needed by the Principality of Monaco to ensure its autonomy in waste treatement compliance.
