The Challenge

Tractebel’s mission was to design and implement a low-emission, carbon-free compression solution to replace aging turbo compressors at a site in northern France. The project aimed to support the transition from gaz B to gaz H, reduce pollutant emissions, and provide a scalable solution capable of handling small flow rates—while minimizing on-site modifications.

The Solution

Tractebel designed and installed a new electro compressor (EC4) in place of one of the three existing turbo compressors. Acting as EPCM contractor, Tractebel delivered a full scope of services including feasibility, basic and detailed engineering with a strong HSE focus, support in awarding supply and work contracts, review of execution engineering from contractors and vendors, and comprehensive management and coordination of construction, commissioning, and start-up activities on site.

The Impact

The electro compressor is scheduled for delivery to the client in S1 2025. With over 120,000 hours worked on site without a single accident, the project stands as a benchmark for safe, efficient, and sustainable infrastructure upgrades in the energy sector.
