The Challenge
The SeaMade offshore wind farm, fully operational since the end of 2020, combines two concession zones—Seastar and Mermaid. The project was designed to significantly boost Belgium’s renewable energy capacity, with the goal of generating enough sustainable electricity to power approximately 500,000 Belgian households annually.
The Solution
Tractebel, in partnership with EQUANS and Smulders, delivered the Offshore Substations under an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contract. These substations are critical components of the wind farm, enabling the efficient collection and transmission of electricity generated at sea to the onshore grid.
The Impact
SeaMade represents a major milestone in Belgium’s energy transition, contributing substantially to the country’s climate goals. With Tractebel’s engineering expertise, the project ensures reliable, large-scale renewable energy production while reinforcing Belgium’s leadership in offshore wind development.
