Mareterra - Sea extension

The Challenge

Designing and constructing a six-hectare “Mediterranean eco-neighborhood” reclaimed from the sea in Monaco’s Anse du Portier area posed an extraordinary engineering challenge. The project required creating an earth bank protected by a belt of reinforced concrete caissons installed on an underwater embankment, ensuring structural stability in a marine environment while meeting stringent environmental and seismic safety standards. This ambitious development had to balance technical complexity with sustainability, integrating cutting-edge solutions to preserve the surrounding ecosystem and guarantee long-term resilience.

The Solution

The Mareterra project transforms Monaco’s coastline into a sustainable, high-end district by reclaiming six hectares from the sea. The development includes 60,000 m² of luxury residences and retail spaces, complemented by landscaped gardens, an eco-friendly marina with around 30 moorings, and public amenities such as a 680-space parking facility. It also features a 3,500 m² extension to the Grimaldi Forum convention center and three residential districts of exceptional standing. Every element of the design integrates environmental responsibility and architectural excellence to create a harmonious link between land and sea.
