The Challenge
The Regionaltangente West (RTW) is a new tangential rail link designed to enhance public transport connectivity across the Frankfurt Rhine-Main metropolitan region. The project aims to relieve congestion in central Frankfurt and improve access to surrounding districts, towns, and municipalities. To ensure environmental compliance and minimize ecological impact, each of the four planning approval sections requires a separate approval process supported by detailed environmental documentation.
The Solution
Tractebel is supporting the RTW project by coordinating and preparing comprehensive environmental studies for each planning section. These include assessments of potential environmental impacts and the development of measures to prevent, mitigate, offset, or compensate for significant adverse effects. The work involves close collaboration with specialist planners and authorities to ensure that all documentation meets regulatory standards and supports a smooth approval process.
The Impact
Once completed, the RTW will significantly improve regional mobility by connecting western districts of Frankfurt am Main with surrounding areas and optimizing access to Frankfurt Airport. It will also reduce pressure on the City Tunnel, enhancing the overall efficiency of the public transport network. Tractebel’s contribution ensures that the project progresses in an environmentally responsible and technically sound manner, supporting sustainable urban development.
