Challenge
To meet the rapidly growing demand for LPG in India, the client embarked on the development of a high-capacity pipeline (6.75 MMTPA) linking an LPG import terminal to the existing pipeline network. The project aimed to strengthen the country’s energy infrastructure, secure LPG supply, and support the increasing needs of industrial and residential consumers.
Solution
As a trusted engineering partner to the EPC contractor, Tractebel provided comprehensive support throughout the project lifecycle. From hydraulic studies and permitting activities to basic and detailed engineering, Tractebel helped establish the technical foundations of the pipeline. The team also supported procurement activities, ensured quality throughout construction, supervised on-site works, and assisted during commissioning to facilitate a safe, efficient, and timely delivery of this strategic energy infrastructure.
Impact
By connecting the import terminal to the existing LPG pipeline network, the project significantly improves the efficiency and reliability of LPG transportation. Shifting volumes from road tankers to pipeline infrastructure helps reduce emissions, enhance safety, and lower operational costs while strengthening India’s energy security.
The project represents a major investment in the country’s energy logistics network and supports national efforts to expand LPG accessibility and distribution. Through the delivery of world-class engineering expertise and solutions, Tractebel contributed to creating a more sustainable and resilient energy supply chain for the region.
