The Challenge
The HELORA hospital project aims to consolidate nearly 2,150 beds across 220,000 m² by bringing together multiple healthcare sites. The challenge lies in harmonizing the specific needs and identities of each location while promoting complementarity and operational efficiency. The goal is to create a unified hospital network that is both scalable and responsive to evolving medical and community needs.
The Solution
Tractebel responded by designing an innovative hospital typology based on standardized, modular units that can be flexibly assembled to suit the context of each site. This approach ensures architectural coherence and adaptability, while projecting a strong, recognizable brand identity for the HELORA network. In addition to the design, Tractebel is responsible for overseeing the execution of the works, including project management and technical coordination. The scope also includes consulting on fire safety strategies (active and passive), acoustics, and energy performance (EPB).
The Impact
The HELORA project will result in modern, community-oriented hospitals that are human-scaled and seamlessly integrated into their surroundings. The modular design supports future expansion and evolution, while maintaining high standards of comfort, safety, and sustainability. Tractebel’s holistic approach ensures that the new facilities will meet both current healthcare demands and future challenges, setting a benchmark for hospital infrastructure in Belgium.
