Writing a Positive Energy Story

15 Dec 2017

Last month, the Embassy of Belgium and Tractebel organised a special workshop on Energy Transition in a Changing World at Fairmont Nile City, Cairo.

The workshop was an opportunity to discuss and provide a platform for energy innovations and opportunities with the latest updates in that field in view of implementation in Egypt. Tractebel’s experts shared their view on how innovation in Power Systems, Cities and Mobility will change the future energy business. With 98 million inhabitants, the country of the pyramids is the most populous area of the Arab world.

Egypt’s will to enter into the Energy Transition and to participate in such a seminar was strenghtened by the presence of Dr. Shaker, HH Minister of Electricity, Mrs. de Cartier, the Ambassador of H.M. the king of the Belgians, Mr. Develay, Tractebel’s CEO, and more than 50 stakeholders from various fields in the public and private sector.

Daniel Develay: “We have the responsibility to design livable cities and improve the life of its citizens. Today, there is a tremendous need for green mobility, quality streets, waterfronts, suitable public spaces, energy-efficient buildings and smart energy in every megapolis in the world. Cairo’s population is set to grow by half a million in 2017 and is therefore the fastest growing city in the world. We want to be an active player in decentralized, decarbonized and digital energy systems to shape a sustainable and prosperous built and natural environment.”
